What is PistonTraders?
PistonTraders is an independent UK used car search engine. We index publicly available used car listings directly from dealer websites across the UK and make them searchable in one place.
Click a result and you land on the dealer's own website — the original listing, photos, specification, availability and contact details.
Is PistonTraders tied to dealer management systems or listing websites?
No. PistonTraders is independent of dealer management systems, classified listing websites, paid marketplaces and promoted listing platforms. We index live vehicle stock directly from UK dealer websites and send users to the original dealer listing.
Can AI agents access PistonTraders vehicle data?
Yes. AI agents, LLMs, crawlers and approved automated clients can use the API links directory: /api-links/
It lists crawlable links to live JSON endpoints. Agents should use the API rather than scraping pages, must not invent listings, and should always return the original dealer listing URL from car.url.
Is PistonTraders a car dealership?
No. PistonTraders is not a dealership and does not sell vehicles. We don't own the cars shown in search results and we don't handle sales, finance, deposits or delivery.
Every enquiry and transaction happens directly between you and the dealer.
Do dealers pay to appear higher in search results?
No. PistonTraders doesn't sell paid placements, sponsored listings or promoted search positions. Results are driven by your query and filters — not advertising spend.
Why might price or availability differ on the dealer's site?
Dealer websites change constantly. A car can sell, drop in price or be amended after it's been indexed.
The dealer's original listing is always the source of truth — which is why every result links back to it.
What keywords work best when searching?
A model name plus a spec usually works best — “Golf GTI DSG”, “XC60 AWD”, “Fiesta automatic”.
Dealers write their own listings, so shorthand like FSH, FMDSH, ULEZ or “1 owner” often surfaces cars a plain model search misses.
How do UK dealers get listed?
Submit your website URL and UK company registration number using the form above. Every submission is reviewed to confirm eligibility before any stock is indexed.
Is PistonTraders free to use?
Yes. Searching is completely free — no fees to browse used car listings, and no charge to click through to a dealer's website.
